High School Foundations (HSF)
Hui Malama Learning Center's HSF program offers a high-school curriculum for 14 and 15 year olds. Classes are offered two days per week at a variety of schedules, in Wailuku. Students complete an Individualized Learning Plan and are supported by educational counselors to participate in a variety of enhancement activities intended to increase academic success, improve employability and encourage positive community involvement.
Our High School Foundations program is offered to students who want to eventually go into GED prep. At this level the focus is on the core high school subjects of math, science, language arts and social studies.
This year in Highschool Foundations, Nancy Halley is integrating two marine
science curriculums developed for grades 9-12 by the University of Hawaii.
Students are able to engage in many hands on activities and field trips.
This combined curriculum covers physics, chemistry, biology, and math. These
are all areas of study our students need to understand before writing the
GED. Over 70% of our planet is water and therefore it is crucial to educate
students about our interconnectedness with water. Our survival depends on
it.
