Middle School

Class of 2011

Our Middle School program provides a middle school curriculum to students at 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels at Hui Malama Learning Center located in Wailuku.

Middle School is designed to support the educational growth and development of students at 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels. Hui Malama Learning Center provides students with a positive learning experience while focusing on project-based curricula in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We assist students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers by developing essential academic competencies and encouraging appropriate and responsible life choices. Students  learn how to access resources, problem-solve and develop life skills relevant to their community and personal goals.

The middle school program is also intended to fill a gap in Maui’s traditional educational system that does not address all student needs. Many of Maui’s youth do not thrive in the typical classroom setting. They need to be physically, emotionally, and socially engaged in a learning process that is focused on real problems that they know they can fix. Ours is a holistic approach that asks each student to address all aspects of his or her life (emotional, spiritual, family, friends, recreational, physical) in order to improve academic performance.

Our Middle School schedule runs Monday through Thursday, from 8:00am to 3:00pm, and on Friday from 8:30am to 11am. Tutoring services are available and may be required. Summer session options are also available. We follow the Hawaii Department of Education’s school calendar.
